2. What is the cost of renewals in JAFZA?

Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) is an integrated part of the UAE’s regional integrated business hub- DP World UAE. It is a place where more than 99.5 billion USD trades with companies from more than 100 countries in the world. Any business looking to set up their business in JAFZA requires an agent. The offshore business in JAFZA costs something around 18,000 AED to the companies. Like other free zones, it also comes with renewal costs that are achieved by the registered agent only. Thus, it is a simple process in which companies directly send the amount to the agent who completes the formalities. The average cost of the renewal in JAFZA is 11,000 AED.

3. How long will it take to set- up a company in JAFZA?

The investors can choose from any of the following formation types for starting their set-up in JAFZA and can get it registered within one-two weeks. Further, the process is similar to set-up a company in other free zones. Thus, the different steps to establish business in the UAE free zone are:

  • The first step is to decide on the different license types and the business activities available on the JAFZA website. These license types include trading license, service license, and industrial license.
  • Businesses can put their queries to JAFZA, and the expert team creates and offers access to the unique portal. This portal is used to start the online application process.
  • Businesses have to fill the online application, pay the nominal application fees, and then submit the application.
  • JAFZA completes the company name’ reservation, management, and approval of compliances.
  • The next step is to pay the registration and sign the legal documents. Provisional approval is issued by the JAFZA, and the company setup can be completed from any corner of the world.
  • The final step is to sign and submit all documents for the new office space. Businesses get an online license.
4. What is the procedure for a family visa?

All employees working in the companies sponsored by the JAFZA have the right to sponsor their families and apply for family visas. It comes under the rules and regulations from Article (31) from the Executive Regulations of the Federal Law No. (6) for 1973 Concerning Immigration and Residence. JAFZA has signed an agreement with the GDFRA to provide family visas to the employees.

It starts with applying for the entry visa and then applying for the family visa. The other documents include Emirates ID issuance services and visa cancellation services, and any other documents required for the family visa. The mandatory requirements for applying for a family visa are:

  • Attested marriage certificate by required entities such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consulate, etc.

  • Applicant’s family passport copies are valid for six months upon application submission.

5. How many employees can I hire in my free zone company?

The JAFZA free zone offers multiple opportunities to various businesses. However, all businesses require dedicated employees and thus JAFZA has certain business restrictions that ensure transparent and viable policies for all. The number of employees that can be hired in a free zone company is similar to rules in the other free zones.

The number of employees in the free zone company is decided by the relevant emirate authority. Thus, the relevant number of visas is issued to the employees. Any business can increase the number of employees by paying additional license fees. Thus, the number of the allowable employee visas indicates the allowed company employees in any free zone company:

  • The business with a Flexi-desk set-up can apply for up to three visas.
  • The business with a serviced office can apply for up to five visas.
  • The business with a physical office can apply for one visa per nine square meters.
6. Is there a minimum capital requirement for company formation in JAFZA?

There are no minimum capital requirements for any of the different company formations in JAFZA.

  • Free zone establishment (FZE): It is ideal for a single shareholder that can be a company/ non-individual or person/ individual. It is a limited liability company within the free zone. It enjoys a distinct legal personality from the shareholders with the capacity, privileges, and rights of a person.
  • Free Zone Company (FZCo): It is used by multiple shareholders. It is a limited liability company within the free zone. It enjoys a distinct legal personality from the shareholders with the capacity, privileges, and rights of a person.
  •  Public Listed Company (PLC): It is a limited liability formation that is for businesses with two or more shareholders. All the liabilities are limited to the capital paid. It enjoys a distinct legal personality from the shareholders with the capacity, privileges, and rights of a person. It can further invite the public to subscribe to its shares.
  • Branch of a Company: The branch of a company is listed as a 100% legal entity of the parent company. Thus, the name and nature of the business are the same as that of the parent company. Further, a company established outside JAFZA can easily register a branch in JAFZA. 
7. What type of business licenses does JAFZA provide?

JAFZA is the key to enter the rich MESA regions that are trusted by multiple businesses to improve their profits. Any business can leverage access to more than 3.5 billion customers by establishing their businesses in JAFZA. The different types of the licenses provided by the JAFZA under three business categories, i.e., trading, service, and industrial activities, are:

  • Trading License: It allows the businesses to execute import, export, and distribute items mentioned on the license only.
  • General Trading License: It allows businesses to access a wider range of activities mentioned on the license only. It covers a long list of activities.
  • Service License: It allows the businesses to carry out the services mentioned on the license only.
  • Industrial License: It allows businesses to carry out the import of raw materials, and carry out the manufacturing of specified products. It also includes the export of the finished products to other countries.
  • National Industrial License: It allows businesses to carry out the manufacturing companies with at least 51% GCC (Gulf Co-operation Council) ownership.
  • Logistics License: It allows the specified logistics services, like, storage, transportation, distribution, forwarding, and clearing activities.
  • E-Commerce License: It allows businesses to buy and sell goods and services over electronic networks via any electronic means.
8. What facilities are provided by JAFZA?

The different facilities provided by JAFZA include:

  • Onsite residences: It comes with shared washrooms, communal mess hall, close proximity to different facilities like shops, mosques, sports activities, etc. It offers 24- hours security within the free zone.
  •  JAFZA One: It offers vibrant, dynamic, and stunning business offices with a total leasable area of more than 100,000 square meters.
  • Customized development: The development solutions come in the options of ownership and long-term lease. JAFZA further offers development management support to different businesses.
  •  Plots of land: The different land plots come for the annual rent ranging from 40 to 100 AED. The minimum leasable area is 5,000 square meters.
  • Warehouses: The warehouses offered by JAFZA have ramps, loading docks, fire exits, main entrances, electricity, water supply, and telecommunication. The other services include parking and security services.
