The total volume of water on Earth is about 1.4 billion cubic km. However, people can only use 0.3 % of the available volume. Good water is found in aquifers, rivers and freshwater lakes, but before drinking it, people should taste it. There were many cases in which people felt ill because they consumed non-potable water.
But there are some solutions. And one of them is called „water treatment equipment”. In many places, drinking water supply is impossible without using the latest water treatment equipment and a good example of this fact are some places from Africa.
In the sector of big cities wastewater all over the world, the ecological activity focuses on protecting water and reusing it, only with the help of special water treatment equipment. This type of equipment includes: water demineralization stations, special filters for removing nitrates from water, cartridges for water filters, water softening systems and so on. Many water treatment equipment manufactures are from United Arab Emirates, where people are very concerned about the quality of the water.
It is important to notice that an average man needs about 100 liters of water per day. It may sound weird, but it is true. Four liters are for fundamental need (2.5 liters for drinking and 1.5 liters for food preparation), 13 liters are for washing dishes, another 13 liters are used for washing clothes and 70 liters are for sanitary needs (washing hands and face, taking a shower).
Also an important problem when it comes to water treatment is the desalination process. Many countries in arid coastal use seawater as a source of drinking water and they have to use expensive desalination processes and equipment. There are over 30 known desalination processes, such as condensation, freezing, extraction, ion exchangers and so on.
Another problem which should be taken into consideration is the fact that in rural areas, where there is no drinking water supply, the water is obtained from wells and it is consumed without prior filtration. This water has a high level of manganese and calcium and sometimes it may be infected by bacteria and viruses.
